TypeNoOne: Meet the UoN SU Type 1 Diabetes Support Group
The UoN Type 1 Diabetes Support Group is a student led project aimed at young people ages 18-25 in Nottingham with Type 1 Diabetes, their friends and families. Established only in September 2013, we have achieved a great amount in a short period of time, culminating in being awarded runner-up prize for the UoN Volunteer Centre’s Project of the Year 2014.
Founded by Emma Starr, the group aims to provide a point of contact in the university for diabetic students arriving at university and living independently for the first time - a daunting prospect even without a long-term illness. Joined by Kate Harborne, this group began to raise awareness and educate about Type 1 around the university as well as fundraise money for diabetes research. The new committee hopes to continue the good work that both Emma and Kate have done up 'til now!
Type 1 Diabetes is a complicated and taxing illness to maintain and - while we all strive to maintain a normal, healthy lifestyle - sometimes we need to hear from others who understand what it means to feel a hypo! This blog aims to further raise awareness of our illness. It's a way for diabetics to connect and share their experiences with others.
