On the 7th September 2014, I will be running 13.1 miles for the JDRF to help fund research into finding a cure for Type One Diabetes.

I have been a diabetic for nine years. Throughout that time, I have refused to allow my illness to stop me taking part in sports or activities. However, this doesn’t mean that diabetes doesn’t present challenges.

Recently, a group of 19 type one suffers climbed Kilimanjaro in aid of the foundation. They each overcame problems with altitude and temperature effecting their testing equipment (as well as their own bodies!). Many of the participants had the same ambition – to prove that diabetes doesn’t stop them – and succeeded by reaching the summit.

I hope that I will feel the same sense of achievement having crossed the finish line on Sunday.

If you would like to find out more about the events run by the JDRF or the research that they do, visit their website: https://www.jdrf.org.uk/get-involved/join-in-an-event/treks/jdrf-climb-kilimanjaro

If you would like to sponsor me for my run and help me reach my target of £1000 for T1D research, visit my JustGiving page: https://www.justgiving.com/Kate-Harborne/?utm_source=Facebook&utm_medium=fundraisingpage&utm_content=Kate-Harborne&utm_campaign=pfp-share
