World Diabetes Day 2014

Friday 14th November was World Diabetes Day 2014. Various charities were running events to help raise money for Diabetes research – ranging from raffles and fun-runs, to a ‘TypeOnesie' day (involving wearing your Onesie for all day… but then, as university students that’s at all unusual!)

After the success of last year, we decided to continue a tradition. On Tuesday 11th November, the TypeNoOne group ran a Bake Sale and Quiz at the University of Nottingham to raise funds and awareness for Type One Diabetes research.

We had a range of baked goods, from chocolate cupcakes to mince pies. Each cake had it’s own nutritional information label with associated insulin dosage. Our myth-busting quiz confused a few visitors, but succeeded in beating so common misconceptions about Type One Diabetes! One lucky visitor also won a photo-shoot voucher for DoubleShoot Photography in Beeston through the quiz draw. (Thank you to Philippa Double for the kind donation!) You can check out our quiz and its answers on our WDD Type One Teaser story.

Overall we raised a massive £125.42 – much more than we raised last year! Thank you to everyone who visited and to our helpers at throughout the day. Half of the funds raised will be going to Diabetes UK for research into a cure for Type One Diabetes. The rest will be going towards the TypeNoOne group so that we can run more fundraisers and events like this one.

Look out for us again next year! (Tradition, yey!)
